Joseph Heler cheese shop opens in Crewe Market Hall!

The operators of rejuvenated Crewe Market Hall have ‘grate expectations’ for their latest arrival – a cheese shop and bistro from renowned local cheese producer Joseph Heler.

Known as The Cheese Corner the much-loved company’s decision to choose the market operated by Market Asset Management (MAM) not only shows the venue’s continued appeal following its £3 million refurbishment in 2021 but is a perfect fit given the Victorian building started life as a cheese hall in 1854.

Showcasing the best local produce to be enjoyed at home and in situ, The Cheese Corner is open five days a week, including late night weekends opening Wednesday – Sunday from 9.30am until late.

A soft launch will take place on Wednesday (August 17) with the new venture officially opening on Thursday (August 18).

Customers will benefit from a variety of cheese-based grazing food including cheese boards, traditional accompaniments, and wines.

In addition to hot food, the counter will offer traditional British truckles (200g wheels) and other cheeses available to purchase to enjoy at home.

The new venture will also create jobs.

We have been able to bring cheese back to its homeland in Crewe, showcasing the finest local cheeses through The Cheese Corner.

“We are proud to now offer somewhere people can come together and enjoy our delicious cheese over a drink, as well as pick up something to take home for later.”

Founded in 1957 and located in Nantwich, Joseph Heler is a third-generation family business and the North of England’s largest independent regional cheese producer.

And the opening of The Cheese Corner is the latest success story for the market which reopened in May 2021 following a multi-million revamp after MAM were appointed as part of Cheshire East Council’s town centre regeneration programme.

The historic Grade II-listed building has seen a 16-fold surge in visitors compared to its previous iteration, with thousands of people attending every week .

Its offering now includes independent traders offering food, drink, retail and diverse live entertainment alongside mezzanine space for local businesses to use for remote/hybrid working and impromptu meetings.

Crewe Central comprising a new bar – The Kennel – and performance space has also recently opened.

In a customer satisfaction survey held over six weeks from December last year and attracting almost 500 responses – a whopping 96% of the respondents said they would be likely or very likely to recommend the Market Hall to friends and family.
